Carlisle businesswoman Saj Ghafoor was
picking up the final of four Honorary Fellowships awarded by the University
of Cumbria this week while her daughter Nazia was graduating with a
first-class degree in midwifery.
It is the latest award for Saj, who has
been honoured in the past for her work to promote multiculturalism in
Carlisle.
She set up the HDM Spice Shop in Brook
Street – a Halal Asian grocery business – in 2005.
Saj has also organised an array of
community events, the city’s annual Culture Bazaar, and she founded the
Carlisle Asian Women’s Group. |
