Cooking Basmati for the best results

Try any of these three cooking methods for
Basmati Rice.
The following methods will give you
individual rice grains separated with a tasty aroma:
Recipe 1: Boiled Basmati

Ingredients
8oz Basmati
Rice
2 pts Salted water
Knob of butter
|
Wash 250g (8oz) of Basmati rice thoroughly and soak for 20 minutes for
softness. Add rice to 2 pints of slightly salted water and boil for 10
minutes. Drain using a colander or sieve. Place the rice into a serving
bowl and mix in a knob of butter to prevent the rice from sticking.

Recipe 2: Pilau Rice

Ingredients
8oz Basmati
Rice
Small onion
1 tsp of Cumin seeds
1tsp Garam Masala
1tsp Salt
425 ml water
|
Wash
250g (8oz) of Basmati rice thoroughly and soak for 20 minutes.
Fry
thinly slices of onion, until lightly brown. Add 1tsp of roasted cumin
seeds (dry roast in Frying pan for 2-4 minutes), 1tsp of Garam Masala &
1 tsp of Salt. Then add rice and stir for 2 minutes. Finally add 425ml
water (just over 1/2 pint). Bring to boil then cover with a lid. Simmer
for 10-15 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally until water is
fully absorbed. Try not to stir too much as the rice can go mushy.
Remove from heat and allow to stand without removing the lid for 5
minutes. Then serve. |

Recipe 3: How to
microwave Basmati Rice

Ingredients
8oz Basmati
Rice
440mls water
½tsp
of salt

To
Microwave - Wash 250g (8oz) of Basmati rice thoroughly. Place rice,
440ml cold water(3/4 pint) &
½tsp
of salt into a microwaveable container and mix together. Cover and cook
for 14 minutes on maximum power. Leave to stand for 5 minutes. Serve
|
